ABOUT DOMINIC FLORIO

Dominic Florio, a dynamic songwriter, singer, artist, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York, has carved a distinct path in the music industry with his versatile talent and relentless drive. Originally from a town just north of Chicago, Dominic’s passion for music ignited at the age of 12, when he attended a neighbor's party and was instantly captivated by the piano. From that moment on, the piano became an extension of his soul, and Dominic began to teach himself songs by his musical idols like Elton John, Billy Joel, and Ray Charles, while also composing his own instrumental pieces.

Recognizing his talent, Dominic briefly took classical piano lessons before auditioning for and earning a spot at Chicago’s prestigious Merit School of Music, a college preparatory institution dedicated to music studies. Balancing high school and his rigorous music education, Dominic immersed himself in a comprehensive curriculum that included jazz piano, composition, arranging, music theory, singing, and even operatic performance.

During his formative years, Dominic’s life was a whirlwind of musical activity. He played in eight different bands, ranging from symphonic and marching bands to jazz and vocal groups. He also composed music for high school musicals and the marching band, all while performing regularly in restaurants, bars, weddings, and jazz clubs throughout Chicago. Despite his busy schedule, Dominic found time to lead his own bands, winning battle of the bands three out of four years and consistently recording and distributing CDs of his original songs to friends.

In March 2010, Dominic was accepted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he moved the following year to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Songwriting. His studies focused on jazz piano and music theory, and he quickly integrated into the local music scene, performing with various bands and working his way through college by gigging up to seven nights a week.

Dominic’s time at Berklee also saw the beginning of his career as a music producer, as he started collaborating with artists like Betty Who, Sam DeRosa, Amy Allen, and Sam Fischer. After graduating in 2015, he continued to build his reputation in Boston before making the move to Brooklyn, New York, in 2016 to fully commit to his music career.

The transition to full-time music production in 2018 marked a turning point for Dominic. Writing and producing seven days a week, he worked with artists from home and at studios like Warner Chappell and Sony ATV. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 accelerated his career, as he adapted to the new normal of Zoom sessions and remote production, leading to an increase in his output and success.

In 2021, Dominic achieved a major milestone with his first commercial sync placement for Discovery Plus’s "90 Day Journey." This success opened new doors, leading to work with major clients like Netflix, Hulu, Discovery Plus, Maybelline, The CW, and other platforms. By 2023, Dominic had surpassed 200 releases with independent artists and solidified his influence in the New York indie pop and queer pop scenes.  Dominic’s collaborative spirit is evident in his work with artists like LEXXE, with whom he has created original music for the Brooklyn-based burlesque/baroque-inspired Company XIV.

As of 2024, Dominic Florio is a sought-after independent songwriter and producer, regularly contributing to Spotify editorial playlists such as Obsessed, Fresh Finds, New Music Friday, and more, and continues to shape the sound of tomorrow’s music.
